Exfoliation 101

This course focuses on the history and process of exfoliation, removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin with chemical or physical tools. Hosted by Danae Markland, LE, CMLT, you’ll learn the history of topical exfoliation, the difference between physical and chemical treatments, and the best ways to prepare the skin prior to treatment. This course is comprised of three modules: Introduction to Exfoliation: Learn about the history of exfoliation, dating back to the Egyptians, and how exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of our skin. Types of Exfoliation: Dive into the difference between physical exfoliation (the removal of skin cells by abrading the skin), and chemical exfoliation (low concentration of gentle acids that help to peel away dead skin cells), and when and how to use each. Pre and Post-Treatment Considerations: Get pre-treatment and post-treatment recommendations for product add-ons to increase exfoliation and prevent irritation, how to use the Fitzpatrick scale to determine which treatment is best for your patient, and contraindications for exfoliation treatments.
